Mostecká Street, Prague 1 - Malá Strana, Centre
A true historical gem awaits in one of the most romantic quarters of Prague. This building, one of Prague’s oldest houses is appropriately called 'Palace of the Saxons', as the building was a gift to Rudolph, Duke of Saxony from King Charles IV. Originally Gothic in design (from 1356 - apparent in the structural vaulting throughout the house), the house underwent a renovation after the Gothic palace was destroyed during the Hussite war and the Mala Strana fire of 1503. The renovation was commissioned by the Trcka family by the Italian architect De Bossi in the Renaissance style. The architectural details in the courtyard arcade will surely transport you back in time as you gaze around and marvel at the living history right in front of your eyes. Also notice the small building located inside the courtyard with the red tile rooftop. This small building was once a pub known for its artistic clientele, Mozart and Jan Neruda among them.
