Another Skyscraper in Pankrac?
A new skyscraper projected to be a nineteen-story building may grace the sky above the thriving area of Pankrac to the dismay of many conservationists.
The Pankrac Company is planning to build a frigid new administrative building called the Ice Tower, close to other tall buildings in the business district of Prague 4. Yet there seems to be strict opposition and concern from the National Heritage. “From the standpoint of monument conservation, the submitted project is out of the question,” the institute stated recently. The protectors of history say that to build such a high building (the height could reach 80 meters) close to the protected area of Prague's historical center is absurd and impossible. Prague runs the high risk of loosing her significant protection from UNESCO due to many already approved Pankrac's skyscrapers. Unfortunately as more investors keep asking for permits and are ready and willing financially, local conservationists may be fighting a losing battle. Such high-rise buildings close to the city center are becoming a flourishing business venture, but will these giants effect the beauty of Prague's graceful skyline?
If all permits are granted, construction of the Ice Tower could begin in two years, although Prague City Hall will determine what happens in the end and since the opinions of the National Heritage have been ignored before, look to the sky.< back
