Family House in Černošice

Fifteenth annual prize for best architectural works in the Czech Republic.

What architects are on the cutting edge of the Czech real estate market? The prestigious Grand Prix of Architects might be a good indication.

The prize, sponsored by the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA) and the Community of Architects (UA), recently announced the results of its fifteenth annual competition.

Judges from the Netherlands, Spain, Slovakia and the Czech Republic chose works in seven categories: Family House, New Building, Reconstruction, Interior, Landscape and Garden Design, Urban Planning, and Artistic Work.

The winners of the Family House category(photo) were architects David Kopecký and Jan Studený of the architectural studio KSA. Their design, built on a slope in Černošice , consists of a reinforced concrete shell and has sliding interior wooden walls that allow for the flexibility of creating rooms or opening up of space according to inhabitant’s needs.

Pavel Hnilička, Petra Bláhová-Kandusová, Veronika Hamříková a Jan Dluhoš won the best design category for a terraced building in Košíře , while the Interior prize was garnered by Jan Šestáka for the central staircase at the Institute of Molecular Genetics Academy.

The Grand Prix finalists will make up an exhibition on display at the Veletržního palace from June 28 to August 15.
