Cubist Architecture Housing
The 20th century avant-garde Art Movement of Cubism made famous by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque was expressed in numerous creative ways by Czech artists in painting, sculpture and architecture, the latter being the most influential. In a ten year time frame about half a dozen architects, among them Josef Chochol, Josef Gocar and Pavel Janak, left behind the legacy of cubist architecture in Prague and nearby cities. Their legacy is this; The Czech Republic is the only country in the world that can claim to have Cubist Architecture. Observe the cycle of time and sunlight on the facades of these buildings. Due to these triangular and diagonal forms these facades are jagged, sharp, and faceted, which causes their appearance to shift as the sun bathes them in light tricks and shadows.
